In order to join A-STEP you must first register. Registration consists of completing an application and submitting it with your official transcripts. The application must be signed by you and mailed using US Postal delivery. Your transcript will be evaluated and you will be informed with the area(s) you qualify to teach.

The Pre-Service Training Academy (PSTA) is broken into two sections. Part I is a 30 hours of online training. Once this fee is paid, you will be assigned and emailed a username, password and link to the training website. You will be able to view and complete the first phase of training online at your convenience. Part I includes the following subjects: 1)Orientation 2)Human Development Theory 3)Age Level Characteristics & Learning Styles 4)Texas Best Practices 5)Educational Measurement 6)Test Constructions and Student Assessment 7)TEKs and Lesson Planning Part I 8)Appropriate Instructional Practices and Strategies 9)Multiple Intelligences 10)Technology in the Classroom |

Second or third year teaching internships extension are available. These extensions are optional. The extension(s) can be used if you are unable to complete the internship within you first year. Your district can "extend" your teaching position up to two year. You will continue to receive all teacher benefits, salary and stipends. |
